Medium ruby, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Waterhorse Ridge opens with crushed blueberries, cassis and chocolate-covered cherries with notions of cedar, graphite, moss and forest floor. It’s medium-bodied with classic flavors, wrapped in a chalky frame and lifted on the long, minerally finish.

Aromatics and palate are both restrained and mouth-watering. Notes of crushed dark rock, pine sap, and some dark fruit notes, but this wine is much more about the mountain experience of exposed rock, dried grasses and mixed forest aromas. Pleasant and distinctive. Nice sense of lightness, freshness and energy. Fine, persistent tannins and balanced acidity. (ECB)
