Tasting notes
The 2020 Syrah Originals Estate comes from vines planted in 1992-1993. Medium ruby, it has a core of blackberry and blueberry with accents of green olive, violet and warm chocolate. The full-bodied palate is concentrated and floral with grainy tannins, rounded acidity and a long, perfumed finish. 520 cases produced.

Looking at the 2020 Syrah releases, of which there are four different cuvées I was able to taste, the 2020 Syrah Originals is terrific, with the fresher, elegant style of the estate today, yet beautiful darker berry fruits, notes of peppery herbs and some gamey, meaty Syrah nuances, ripe tannins, and medium body. It will keep for 8-10 years in cold cellars.
The 2020 Syrah Originals emerges from the oldest Syrah in Ballard Canyon, Durrell clone planted in 1993. It offers terrific creaminess and texture, but with the greater freshness that is now a Stolpman signature. Succulent red cherry, plum, spice, blood orange and mint all meld together in this racy, deeply satisfying Syrah. Superb.
