Tasting notes
From a notable vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and two-thirds destemmed, the 2018 Grenache Spear Vineyard offers a beautiful, more earthy, sous bois-driven bouquet of mulled cherries, wild strawberries, bouquet garni, and sappy flowers. As with all these wines, it plays in the medium-bodied, elegant, lightly textured end of the spectrum yet has plenty of tannins, outstanding balance, and a great finish. Angela Osborne continues to make an ethereal, lightly textured, elegant style of wine based on old vine Grenache. These are a Pinot Noir lover’s style of Grenache.

The 2018 Grenache Spear Vineyard is an explosion of aromas and flavors, all supported by breams of acidity and tannin that give the wine a real sense of energy. Dark cherry, licorice, sage, mint and lavender bring out slightly darker shades of Grenache character. More than anything else, the Spear stands out for a sense of structure that is not found in any other wine in the range.
