Score 93/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

A firm, mineral-drenched Syrah that shows loads of whole cluster and stem influences, McPrice’s 2010 Syrah Larner Vineyard offers a deep ruby/purple color to go with notions of smoked black and red raspberries, gunpowder, freshly ground pepper and searing chalky minerality. Full-bodied, pure, fresh and delineated, with superb richness, it is a gorgeous effort that needs 2-3 years in the cellar and will shine for just under a decade. Drink 2015-2020. These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! Tel. The 2010 Larner, 100% Syrah, impresses for its texture and delineation. Larner often yields wines that are a bit rustic, but the 2010 is all about silkiness and persistence. Smoke, game, earthiness, tobacco, cedar and juniper berries all add a touch of gravitas on the rich, weighty finish.

Glass-staining purple. Highly perfumed aromas of black and blue fruits, licorice, black olive and smoky Indian spices. Pliant and broad on the palate, with appealing sweetness and intensity to its dark fruit compote and licorice pastille flavors. The impressively persistent finish shows excellent clarity and verve, with only a hint of tannins peaking through.
