Score 92/100 · Robert Parker, Aug 2009

More spring flowers, creme de cassis, and blackberry liqueur, along with forest floor and a hint of subtle smoke, make up the provocative and enticing bouquet of the 2006 Syrah Jack & Jill. The wine is multi-dimensional, layered, and rich, a full-throttle, pedal-to-the-metal Syrah that saturates the palate, so don’t be expecting a wine of restraint and delicacy. This is exuberant, in-your-face Syrah at its best. Biale Vineyards is renowned for their fabulous Zinfandels, but they turn out high-intensity, blockbuster Petite Sirahs and Syrahs, and for those who love full-flavored wines, these should be high on any buying list. Their Petite Sirahs are often 20- to 25-year wines, while the Syrahs are probably best drunk in their first 7-8 years of life. Tel. (707) 257-7555; Fax (707) 257-0105
