Deep ruby. Aromas of black and blue fruits, licorice and espresso, with a smoky nuance building in the glass. Offers slow-to-open cassis and blueberry flavors that are given spine by zesty minerality and sharpened by a peppery quality. Closes with firm, gripping tannins, resonating spiciness and very good persistence. Seems younger than it is; this is aging slowly. (JR)
