Score 91/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2013

The 2010 Pinot Noir Moon Select is all about power. Black cherries, spices and menthol take shape in the glass, but ultimately, the 2010 is a wine built on intensity and palate-staining richness. There is plenty of structure here, but I miss the distinctiveness of the single-block wines. Ferrous notes add further elements of brooding darkness on the close.

Jason Jardine, formerly General Manager at Rhys, joined Flowers in 2010. The wines I have tasted since then have been interesting and distinctive. Tel. (707) 847-3661

Long-term bottling at Flowers originally named after Moon Nurseries in Pennsylvania owned by the Flowers. Nothing to do with the current biodynamic practices. 40% whole cluster and the five best barrels. 40% Sea View and 60% Camp Meeting Ridge. Mid ruby. Quite complex nose. Rich and layered. Sweet and floral on the nose but great breadth and subtlety on the palate. Very firm finish. Savoury and with real line to this wine. Not yet ready. Savoury. Jewelly nd appetising. Transparent. Real lift-off. Quite rich rose petals on the finish. (JR)
