Score 87/100 · Drink 2020, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2020

Dark red-ruby. Subdued aromas of black plum, mocha, underbrush and nutty oak, plus a slightly high-toned chocolatey element and a strong peppery-herbal quality. Juicy but a bit dry and imploded; a rather narrow, pinched version of 2010, with modest fruit sweetness and texture. With limited stuffing, the firm tannins are a bit rasping, leaving the palate dusty and dry. My first sample of this wine came across as fatter and riper but a bit porty and oxidative, while this one was leaner and greener. Drying out and going nowhere.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Tomahawk Vineyard is the most backward, tannic and muscular wine in this portfolio. Currently it displays firm tannins and good fruit, but is somewhat closed and more reticent than its siblings. It should develop into a very fine wine in 3-4 more years and last for 15+ years. Tel.
