Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2019
Moderately saturated medium red. Rather tight on the nose, with aromas of cherry and licorice lifted by spices, flowers and blood orange and complicated by a faint meaty nuance. Nicely concentrated, fine-grained and light on its feet, with cherry and rose petal notes giving the wine a refreshingly brisk quality following the distinctly salty Northern Blend. This juicy, nicely delineated midweight finishes with firm but well-buffered tannins and rising floral persistence. Not the last word in complexity but ultimately shows lovely Grenache perfume. There's a touch of salinity here that's easily carried by red fruits. Finishes with a light dusting of tannins that will not get in the way of early drinking.
