Hazy yellow-gold. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of lemon curd, orange pith and iodine, plus a hint of vanilla. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering sharply focused citrus fruit and pear skin flavors lifted by a zesty mineral quality; picked up floral and anise notes with air. Chewy, gripping and refreshingly bitter on the long, mineral-driven finish. This intriguingly powerful yet nervy wine was mostly fermented in new French oak casks of varying size and then transferred to older French oak barrels for 15 months of aging.

Starting out, the 2011 Incandescent is smoking blend of 60% Roussanne, 36% Chardonnay and the balance Viognier. Rich and decadent, with full aromas and flavors of marmalade, buttered toast and almond paste, it’s unctuous and rich on the palate yet stays remarkable light on its feet and carries great acidity. It deserves a classy meal and should have 4-5 years or more of prime drinking. Drink now-2018. This was a great lineup by Matthias Pippig. Now making their wines from a newly renovated winery in the town of Santa Barbara, these wines offer loads of fruit, yet have impeccably made profiles. In addition, they also age gracefully.
