From a site tucked into the most westerly section of the valley on the western edge of Oakville, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is more backward and reserved, but it will probably merit a triple-digit score at maturity. Notes of blackcurrants, coffee beans, caramelized blueberries, and dark chocolate give way to a full-bodied, powerful 2018 that has lots of tannins but the mid-palate, concentration, and balance to handle them. Hide bottles for at least 5-7 years.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers up flamboyant scents of mocha, stewed plums, blackcurrant cordial and licorice, with an undercurrent of kirsch, tar, lilacs and tobacco leaf. The taut, densely laden, full-bodied palate is built like a brick house, supported by firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long with a compelling savoriness. 162 cases were made.
