Tasting notes
The 2006 Pinot Noir Fire Mountain was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1978. The nose exhibits a touch of herbaceousness and pepper while the mid-palate is in need of greater depth. On the plus side, it has a silky texture, good flavors, and a medium-long finish. Elk Cove’s first vintage was in 1977 and they were the eighth bonded winery in Oregon’s new era. They produce a full range of wines but the focus is Pinot Noir. Tel. (503) 985-7760; www.elkcove.com

Bright red. Alluring bouquet of black raspberry, kirsch, allspice, incense and cinnamon. The palate offers deep, sweet red and dark berry flavors, supple texture and fine-grained tannins that add gentle grip. Finishes energetic and spicy, with a strong note of sweet red berries. Seductive and delicious now.
