Readers looking for a seductive, sexy, complex, already delicious, subtle Syrah should check out the 2003 Pilgrimage (250 cases produced). Its broad, alluring, complex nose of wood smoke, charcoal, cherries, plums, and spices is accompanied by a medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannin, beautiful ripeness as well as purity, and a long, lush finish. It should be consumed over the next 5-6 years. Tel. (707) 257-7555

Bright, deep red-ruby. Expressive aromas of brown spices, grilled meat and licorice. Sweet, supple and pliant, with flavors of dark berries, licorice and rooty spices. Finishes with sweet tannins and good spicy length. The most immediately accessible of these 2003 syrahs.
