Meaning “the butcher” in French, the 2017 Red Wine Le Boucher is the Cabernet Franc-heavy blend in the lineup and includes 61% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It's all from vines planted in 1980 and was brought up in 70% new French oak. Bright, juicy notes of bay leaf, spring flowers, red currants, and dried flower notes all emerge from the glass, and it's an elegant, ethereally styled Cabernet Franc that can be drunk today or cellared for 10-12 years.

The 2017 Le Boucher is dense and powerful in its first impression. Succulent dark cherry, plum, cinnamon and new leather infuse the 2017 with tremendous textural resonance. The elevated ripeness of the year comes through in the wine's flavor profile, but Le Boucher remains very much in the David Arthur style.

Blended of 61% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Red Blend Le Boucher is deep garnet-purple colored with a nose of plum preserves, baked cherries and licorice plus underlying fallen leaves, tilled soil and bay leaves notions. The palate is full-bodied with rather rustic tannins and a tart line cutting through the taut, muscular fruit, finishing a little hard and warm.

Lots of blueberry and blackberry character with hints of currants, too. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and depth.
