Slightly better, but hardly an inspirational effort, the 2001 The Oracle is an equal part blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers cedarwood, roasted herb and black currant notes, medium body and a finish that is significantly shorter than most 2001’s. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. Tel. (800) 366-9463

Bright red-ruby. Aromas of red berries and sassafras are overshadowed by notes of tar and charred oak. Offers good texture, with flavors of dark berries, sassafras, leather and tobacco, along with a tarry, chewy wood element. Finishes with somewhat gritty, drying, oak-powered tannins and plenty of spice from the wood.
