The 2016 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard is a beautiful wine that melds the power that comes so naturally at Big Basin with an extra kick of brightness and inner perfume. Sweet red cherry, mint, blood orange and cinnamon infuse the 2016 with striking layers of nuance that continue to develop over time. Chalk, white pepper and a touch of whole cluster savoriness from the 88% stems rounds things out. The 2016 is such a vivid, expressive Pinot.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard was picked from August 29 to September 5 and aged 17 months in 42% new French oak. Pale to medium ruby, the nose opens with scents of charcuterie and prosciutto over dried red and black cherries, cranberry jelly, wet earth, mushrooms, forest floor and a veil of sweet spices. The medium-bodied palate features crunchy, earth-laced fruits with gently chalky texture and good freshness on the finish. 335 cases produced.

The 2016 Coastview Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the more delicate wines, with pretty red fruits, smoked earth, spring flowers, and spice aromas and flavors. Like all of Bradley's wines, it has juicy acidity and terrific purity, is medium-bodied, elegant and lively. It also has a vibrant, poised style that's going to age beautifully. It's one of my favorites in the lineup but needs 3-4 years of bottle age. This saw 88% whole clusters and spent 18 months in 42% new French oak.

A classy, polished wine, the 2016 Pinot Noir Coastview Vineyard is also one of the most reticent Pinots in the range. That won't be an issue in a few years' time, but for now readers should plan on being patient. Dried cherry, mint, dried flowers, anise and crushed rose petal are all finely sketched in this beautifully chiseled Pinot Noir from Big Basin.
