Score 90/100 · Drink 2009-2017, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2009
With a cool climate profile, the 2006 Rhys Alesia Syrah Fairview Ranch has big, rich aromatics of minerals, earth, tobacco and smoke that are supported by ripe blackberry and cassis fruit. The wine is medium to full bodied in the mouth with rich fruit, impressive balance and a medium length finish. Drink this excellent Syrah over the next 5 to 8 years.

Ruby-red. Varietally expressive nose displays peppery red and dark berries, mocha, woodsmoke and dried flowers. Fleshy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors gain depth with air, taking a turn to boysenberry and plum. Dusty tannins add grip to the long, meaty finish. I'd be inclined to drink this now for its early complexity.
