Tasting notes
Opaque ruby. Expressive aromas of mulberry, blackberry, licorice and smoky herbs show very good clarity and a spicy topnote. Lush, open-knit black and blue fruit flavors provide very good palate coverage, with juicy acidity contributing focus and spine. This plush, weighty, fruit-driven wine finishes with very good focus and gentle tannic grip.(JR)

An interesting blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 35% Grenache and the balance Syrah, the 2011 Infidels has a serious floral streak to go with plenty of currant and darker berry fruit, scorched earth and spice-styled aromas and flavors. Seeing over two years in 20% new oak, it-s a medium to full-bodied, textured, balanced and long 2011 that will drink nicely over the coming 5-6 years. My tasting with Matthias Pippig was a big one, and the lineup is loaded with outstanding wines. Tel. (805) 845-0920; www.sanguiswine.com
