Score 16/20 · Drink 2020-2024, Jancis Robinson MW, Sep 2020

In addition to the same DRC-imitative label of the estate bottling, this bottle ostentatiously bears a microchip made by Cypress Semiconductor, which is how the proprietor, T J Rodgers, made his millions. 189 cases made. Dark garnet with a faint haze. Smells of raspberry and raspberry jam. Brighter raspberry flavours have good acidity and somewhat counterintuitively, a juicier fresher aspect than some of its sibling bottlings. This despite a 14.2% alcohol, easily half a percentage point higher than some of the estate's other wines. (AY)

The 2013 Pinot Noir Domaine Valeta Sunny Slope is a rich, heady wine. An exotic concoction of dark macerated cherry, spice, chocolate, sweet French oak, licorice, spice and menthol gives the Sunny Slope headspinning intensity. Time in the glass brings out layer after layer of flavor. Dark, brooding and imposing, the Sunny Slope is a wine that won't be denied.
