Tasting notes
The 2015 Hossfeld Red Blend is powerful, inky and voluptuous, with no hard edges and plenty of textural resonance. Dark red plum, raspberry jam, sweet tobacco, mocha, bittersweet chocolate and new French oak are fused together in this sumptuous, forward wine from Mark Carter. Because of the tiny yields of the year, Carter did not bottle a Cabernet from Hossfeld, but instead used that juice for the Red Blend.

The 2015 Hossfeld Coliseum (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a big, sexy beast of a wine. Currants, black cherries, chocolate, and leafy herbs/underbrush all soar from the glass of this full bore, pedal-to-the-metal beauty that has terrific purity of fruit as well as sweet tannin. It’s already impossible to resist yet will cruise for 15+ years. Mark Carter and winemaker Mike Smith continue to make a bevy of hedonistic, sexy, powerful wines from throughout Napa Valley. These 2015s are all brilliant wines, yet quantities are tiny due to the dismal yields.
Very deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Hossfeld Coliseum Proprietary Red (composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) leaps from the glass with plum preserves, crème de cassis and dark chocolate notes plus hints of menthol, black cherry preserves and Indian spices. Full-bodied, soft, rich and sexy, this makes for a gorgeous taste of the vintage to enjoy right now, while you're waiting for its big brothers to come 'round.
