Score 90/100 · Drink 2010-2017, Robert Parker, Feb 2010

Another outstanding effort is the 2007 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard. Its dark ruby color is followed by scents of damp earth, spice box, licorice, white chocolate, black cherries, and raspberries. Medium to full-bodied with tart, fresh acids, and a long finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 5-7 years. For the past twenty years, Patz and Hall has been one of California's finest negociant firms, accessing top quality fruit and vinifying and bottling their wines with minimal intervention. The following efforts represent the finest wines I have tasted from them in many years. Tel. (877) 265-6700

Dark red with ruby highlights. Pungent red berry aromas complemented by smoke, mocha, flint and minerals. Broad, dense and uncompromisingly dry, with spice, earth, coffee and mineral tones currently dominating primary fruit. In a distinctly brooding, dark style: this hints at very good depth of flavor without yet delivering its fruit. Finishes with big, dusty tannins and very good length. Lay off this for a year or two.
