Tasting notes
Canard's Merlot-based 2016 The Rescuer is dark, pliant and super-expressive, with all of its elements in the right place. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, lavender, grilled herbs, spice, menthol and licorice are all found in this pretty, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from Canard. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 has more than enough depth to drink well for a number of years, although I would cellar it first to allow the tannins to soften.

Blended of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Merlot The Rescuer has a nose of plum preserves, fried herbs, baking spices and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate gives plenty of uncomplicated, juicy fruit with a chewy texture defining the finish.
