Tasting notes
(60% new French oak) Limpid ruby-red. Powerful, smoke-accented dark berry preserve, cherry cola and lavender pastille scents show very good clarity and pick up Indian spice and vanilla notes with air. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated black raspberry, cherry liqueur and mocha flavors, along with energizing spiciness and a touch of smoky minerality. Weighty yet surprisingly graceful, finishing with strong thrust, slow-building tannins and lingering florality.

Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve is scented of mulberries, blackberries and black raspberries with suggestions of charcoal, anise, fennel seed, cedar and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, the mid-palate comes across a little hollow among the frame of chewy tannins and lively acid and it finishes just a tad warm and woody. There is no doubt that this is a good wine, but it is just a little lacking in real fruit-derived substance and is too contrived in the winery to constitute a great Pinot Noir.
