Tasting notes
The 2006 Pinot Noir Abbott Claim Vineyard was developed and is owned by Ken Wright. Medium ruby-colored, aromas of earth, mineral, spice box, and red fruits are enticing. The wine has outstanding depth and concentration but comes up a bit short on complexity. That may well emerge with a few years of further cellaring. Ken Wright Cellars remains a benchmark for Oregon Pinot Noir. Wright’s portfolio of 2006s is outstanding across the board. As has become customary, Ken Wright has pulled off a tour de force in farming and winemaking. Tel. (503) 853-7070; www.kenwrightcellars.com

Medium red color. Deep cherry and dark berry aromas, with baking spices and dark chocolate adding nuance. Offers brighter red fruits on the palate, picking up dusty minerality and tangy blood orange with aeration. A juicy, impressively fresh style, with medium weight and excellent finishing snap, even if it seems a bit wound-up today. This could use some time to flesh out.
