Score 95/100 · Drink 2019-2040, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Sep 2019

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortis is blended of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec and 4% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features bold notions of Black Forest cake, crème de cassis and blueberry preserves with hints of oolong tea, lilacs and cedar chest plus a waft of charcuterie. Medium to full-bodied, the oak is poking out still, but the palate is stacked with expressive black and blue fruits, finishing long and savory.

A big red that’s dry, savory and well structured, rather than opulent and brimming with fruit, as so many Napa cabernets are. Impressively complex, dry finish. Drink or hold.
