Tasting notes
Brundlmayer harvested his 2006 Riesling Kamptaler Terrassen early in order to preserve crispness and refreshment. What he got is not exactly under-ripe, but it is rather as if Riesling were reverting to its Muscat progenitors. It is also lots of fun to drink. Fresh lemon, sage and marjoram on the nose lead to a snappy, bright palate that sizzles with citrus rind pungency. Brisk yet penetrating, this finishes with a stimulating hint of bitterness. In 2006, Willi Brundlmayer really displayed mastery of his sites. While their fruits all ripened to high potential alcohol such as we have become used to in most vintages at this estate, this was by and large without detrimental effects, and the wines display clarity and refinement without heat or bitterness.
