The 2014 Eighth Veil, a blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne, pushes the envelope of maturity to the outer bounds. Powerful and ample, the 2014 exudes richness in its orange peel, honeysuckle, mint and chamomile flavors, all of which build into a huge, resonant finish.

A blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne, the 2014 The Eighth Veil has an enticing nose of lemon curd, white grapefruit and white peach plus hints of struck match, hay and shaved almonds. Medium-bodied with a beautiful creaminess to the texture, it delivers seriously intense citrus and stone fruit flavors and just enough freshness, finishing long and minerally. Totally unique wine and I love it! Drinking well now, it has the stuffing to develop (conservatively) over the next five to six years+.

The 2014 The Eighth Veil is another interesting blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne that offers lots of lemon, honeysuckle, pineapple and floral aromas and flavors. It's certainly exotic, and despite being primarily Chardonnay, I wouldn’t guess that variety in a blind tasting (I'm sure this is largely due to its extensive lees stirring). It's balanced, has good acidity and plenty of texture. It too will shine on the dinner table. Based out of Santa Barbara, Sanguis’s Matthias Pippig continues to make a singular lineup of wines that run the gamut from rich, unctuous Syrahs, to old-school Pinot Noirs, to borderline orange wines. There’s some true gems in the lineup, with the 2014 1/1 Syrah being the best wine I’ve tasted from the estate.
