The 1999 Barolo Arborina is another wine that has developed well in bottle. All of the hallmark Arborina notes are found in the glass, from the high-toned aromatics, expressive red berries and slightly firm tannins. Today, the 1999 is a bit compact, but with time it opens up nicely. In 1999 the Arborina is perhaps a bit fresher than the Giachini, and every bit as beautiful.

Dark ruby. The Arborina displays a sweet, perfumed nose with more obvious toasted oak influences, along with plenty of super-ripe fruit on a medium-bodied frame and the typically aggressive, firm tannins of this site. Corino's 1999 Arborina is still quite vibrant and should drink well to age 20.

The 1999 Barolo Arborina, is showing more vanilla, cedar, and oak in its nose and, while the length and continuity are very good, there are some oak tannins and a slight dryness on the close which only bottle time will adjust. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Good full red. Roasted red fruits, marzipan, tobacco and earth on the clean, fresh nose, complicated by sexy, nutty oak. Concentrated, suave and deep, with a sappy core of fruit; more perfumed and delineated in the middle today than the Giachini or Roncaglia. Finishes lush but firm and juicy, with notes of leather and game and the positive austerity that characterizes the best wines from this vintage. Tannins dust the teeth and tongue. A terrific showing.
