Tasting notes
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is the best of these three Cabernets today. It shows excellent depth underpinned by a firm core of minerality. Expressive mocha, sweet spices, plums and black cherries layered with expressive aromatics offer considerable appeal, but this is another 2009 that shuts down mightily in the glass. It will be interesting to see where this goes over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2024. Kirk Venge makes the Bacio Divino wines for proprietor Claus Janzen. In addition to these wines, I also tasted the 2010 To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon, the only wine that showed awkwardly. The bottled wines mostly came in within my projected ratings from barrel. The Bacio Divino/Janzen Cabernets are made in an overt style that makes them approachable fairly young, although site specificity as at times blurred. Tel. (707) 942-8101
