Glass-staining purple. Expressive scents of blueberry, cherry compote, cracked pepper and incense. Fleshy and expansive, offering vibrant dark fruit flavors and suggestions of spicecake and candied violet. Sappy and smooth on the finish, which lingers with very good intensity and gentle tannins.

Made in a similar style with even more concentration, the 2010 Cornas Premieres’s black/purple color is followed by sweet notes of creme de cassis, blackberries, incense, camphor, subtle pepper and crushed rock. Sweet tannin, a full-bodied mouthfeel, attractive suppleness and an early appeal suggest it can be enjoyed over the next 15 years. This up-and-coming small estate is run by brothers Eric and Joel Durand, who made terrific wines in 2009, top-class 2010s and impressively strong efforts from the more challenging 2011 vintage. All three Cornas cuvees are noteworthy. The Durands have also been successful in St.-Joseph. Importer: Paul M. Young Fine Wines, Los Angeles, CA; tel. (213) 232-5199
