2010 Herman Story Syrah Nuts & Bolts

The 2010 Nuts and Bolts possesses gorgeous depth, but the aromatics aren’t as delineated as I had hoped. Blackberry jam, graphite, tar and licorice flesh out on the deep finish. The 2010 is 100% Syrah aged in French oak barrels, 55% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Russell From’s wines are both inspiring and frustrating. They often boast impeccable textural elegance and purity, but at the same time the high alcohol (at times in excess of 16%) comes through, especially as the wines sit in the glass. Possessing classic black currant, blackberry, spice-box, underbrush, and spring flowers, it hits the palate with a full-bodied, powerful feel, while at the same time staying incredibly light, balanced, and focused. Seamless, pure, and with a great finish, it will impress for upwards of a decade.
