From blocks in the Durrell vineyard (the parcel is rolled river rocks soils), the 2015 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard offers a medium gold color as well as a sensational bouquet of ripe, caramelized citrus, crushed rocks, tangerine, and marine/seashell-like aromas and flavors. Aged 16 months in 37% new French oak, it's deep, rich, and thrillingly textured, with bright, juicy acidity keeping it vibrant and focused. It's a stunning Chardonnay to drink over the coming decade. Don Hartford and winemaker Jeff Stewart have produced a sensational lineup of wines in 2015 (and I suspect 2016 as well). This is a smaller yielding year, and while quantities are tiny, the wines are concentrated, rich, and flamboyant while also staying elegant and seamless. These are world-class Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that readers need to seek out!

Hartford's 2015 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard has turned out beautifully. Today, the mineral notes that are typical of this wine are much more present than they were when the wine was in barrel. Graphite, sage, apricot and smoke infuse this super-expressive, textured Chardonnay. This is very nicely done. The Stone Côte emerges from Hartford's portion of the Durrell Vineyard.

Stone Côte is sourced from a block within the Durell vineyard. It receives native yeast fermentation and is barrel fermented in French oak, 37% new, where it ages for 16 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2015 Stone Côte Vineyard Chardonnay offers mind-blowingly gorgeous ripe pineapple, peach blossom and pink grapefruit notes with a gregarious undercurrent of candied ginger, allspice, butterscotch and brioche. Big, rich and full-bodied, there’s a seductive oiliness to the texture with fantastic concentration of a very long finish. 476 cases were made.

The 2015 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard is round, sensual and supple, with plenty of tropical notes. The stony character that is often evident in this wine covered by the sheer richness and luxuriousness of the fruit. This flamboyant Chardonnay will drink well upon release. Stone Côte is Hartford's Chardonnay from the Durrell Vineyard, one of the best-known sites in Sonoma Valley.
