Score 91/100 · Drink 2011-2016, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Aug 2011

The 2010 Viognier which 70% of the fruit came from Ciel du Cheval and 30% from Force Majeure. The wine was fermented 75% in neutral French oak and 25% in stainless steel. Stony minerals, peach, apricot, and floral notes inform the nose of an intense, savory, full-flavored, vibrant Viognier that has the acid structure to drink well for at least 4-5 years. Force Majeure, for the first part of its brief history, was known as Grande Reve until the threat of a lawsuit resulted in the name change. The new releases from Force Majeure are superb and immediately vault the winery into the top ranks of Washington (and American) producers. Until the estate vineyard (to be known as Force Majeure Vineyard) comes into full production, the fruit is sourced from the esteemed Ciel du Cheval Vineyard where partner Ryan Johnson is in charge of viticulture.
