Tasting notes
The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Torre a Destra is 100% Sangiovese laced with tertiary aromas of old tobacco and cured leather. There’s a gritty, evolved feeling here with elements of crushed granite and campfire smoke. Bright berry acidity gives it a good jolt of energy – but the jury is out on how long that will last. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2016. There’s a lot of competition in this part of the world for who has the most beautiful castle. For sure, the medieval Castello della Paneretta with its stone towers and crenulated walls is a top contender in the running. The property includes a homey agriturismo for visitors looking for authentic Tuscan charm. The winemaking style also embraces strict Tuscan tradition: Castello della Paneretta prefers to work exclusively with the native varieties of the area such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Torre a Destra wraps around the palate with layers of silky, generous fruit. The radiance of the year comes through nicely in this inviting, soft Chianti Classico. The Torre a Destra is 100% Sangiovese, aged partly in cask and partly in French oak barrels, which gives the wine much of its volume and textural depth.
