The 2016 Grenache 1/1 checks in as a mix of 92% Grenache, 6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Syrah that's from a handful of top sites in Santa Ynez and saw 35% stems and 26 months in a used 400-liter barrel. Its vivid ruby/purple color gives way to a savory, spice-laced wine that has medium to full body, ripe tannins, and notes of macerated cherries, blackberries, cured meats, dried earth, and peppery herbs. With a great texture, solid balance, and a great finish, drink it any time over the coming decade.

The 2016 1/1 Grenache is a very pretty and expressive wine with lovely aromatic presence from the 1/3rd whole clusters. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, worn-in leather and tobacco overtones add striking layers of nuance as the wine opens up in the glass. This is the first release of 1/1 Grenache, essentially a single barrel of wine that spent 26 months in oak. That relatively long elevage resulted in an especially pliant, supple wine endowed with considerable appeal.

The 2016 Grenache 1/1 is a blend of 92% Grenache, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Syrah. It has a medium ruby color and is youthfully coiled on the nose, with blueberry coulis, desiccated violet, orange peel and pink peppercorn emerging with time, plus charcuterie, stewed rhubarb, strawberries, spicy blackberries, dust and cocoa. Medium-bodied, it opens silky-smooth in the mouth, with a plethora of spicy fruits and chocolate nuances, plushly textured tannins and good freshness, finishing epically long, energetic and very layered. Yes!
