First vintage made by Raj Parr , who had never made wine in Oregon before. ‘In Dom de la Côte we do two punch downs a day but here we just pour a bucket over and a little foulage at the end of fermentation’. No volcanic soil apparently. 20% whole bunch, all concrete and wood fermenters. All Pommard clones planted in 1983 and mainly ungrafted. (He prefers massal selections.) They are slowly replanting all vines because of phylloxera. Slightly reduced on the nose but impressively long on the palate with some bright fruit in the middle. (JR)

Aged in 30% new Ermitage barrels for 16 months. Aromatics of mixed ripe berries still full of bramble and a savoury core carry into the palate. The mid palate is mouth-filling and bright with a long mouth-watering finish. With air the berry flavours develop a bit of creaminess verging into kirsch notes and the wine overall becomes more savoury. I will be curious to taste this wine again in a few years as it is approachable and pleasant now but is a good candidate for developing with a couple of years in bottle. (ECB)

The 2014 Pinot Noir Estate Seven Springs Vineyard, matured in around 15% new barrels (Hermitage cooperage), has a very attractive bouquet with blackberry, briary and a touch of undergrowth, perhaps from the judicious 10% whole cluster fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, crisp and tensile tannin, quite linear in style and it feels tight on the bitter cherry and blackberry finish, but there is plenty of fruit here and it will expand when it is bottle.
