2014 Rudd Sauvignon Blanc Mt. Veeder

Tasting notes
84% Sauvignon Blanc, 16% Semillon. Vines over 25 years old on Sonoma volcanic soils at 1,600 ft of elevation. Aged for 8 months in 40% neutral French oak, 28% new French oak, 22% concrete tanks and 10% stainless-steel tanks. Perfumed nose with lots of richness. Looking great – perfumed and still zesty. Much more charming than the 2023, so proof, presumably, that this wine ages well. A streak of lime and floral top notes. (JR)

From a 19-acre site at the top of Mount Veeder, the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc is a beauty and one of the standout Sauvignon Blancs in the valley. Buttered lime, caramelized white grapefruit, and spice all emerge from this medium-bodied, vibrant, racy beauty that has good density, lots of juicy acidity and a great finish. It will keep for a decade or more.
Rudd's 2014 Sauvignon Blanc Mt. Veeder is rich, and phenolic, with lovely mountain intensity and terrific overall balance. Bright, focused and nuanced throughout, the 2014 delivers considerable varietal character to match its inviting personality. Grapefruit, lemon peel, mint and crushed rocks flesh out in the glass. The inclusion of 16% Semillon and slightly later picking for Sauvignon Blanc yields a white wine of textural complexity.
