Score 93/100 · Drink 2019-2025, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Jan 2019

The already bottled 2017 Sauvignon Blanc Mt. Veeder is blended of 80% Sauvignon Blanc with 12% Sauvignon Gris and 8% Sémillon, aged for ten months in 51% concrete, 34% neutral oak, 12% new oak and 3% stainless steel. It bursts forth with pronounced notes of warm peaches, pink grapefruit, passion fruit and struck match with hints of wild sage, crushed rocks and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied, it fills the palate with gregarious stone fruit and tropical flavors plus a satiny texture and bold freshness, finishing long and chalky. 417 cases produced.

The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc, from Rudd's Mt. Veeder property, is powerful and phenolic, with considerable mountain structure underpinning a range of bright citrus, white orchard fruit, mint and floral character. Expressive and pliant, with terrific overall balance, the Sauvignon Blanc is another winner in this range. Here, too, the move away from the rich whites Leslie Rudd favored to a style that is more about subtlety and freshness is quite evident.
