Even better than it was in barrel, the 2012 Malbec bursts from the glass with notable intensity, power and richness. Dark red cherry, plum, spice and licorice notes are all very much alive in a racy wine endowed with serious depth and extraordinary purity of fruit. In 2012, the Malbec was done mostly in puncheon.

A new offering, at least for me to taste, is their 2012 Pahlmeyer Estate Vineyard Malbec. This is a sensational Malbec that could compete with some of the monster Malbecs coming out of Argentina. Black as a moonless night, the wine shows plenty of black raspberry, blueberry, licorice and incense. This is one of the best Malbecs I’ve ever tasted from Napa and kudos to Jayson Pahlmeyer and staff for creating it. It’s really great and special.
An exotic melange of blackberries, blueberry jam orange peel, white pepper and raspberry jam meld together as the 2012 Malbec shows off its considerable personality. Rich, opulent and deeply expressive, the 2012 impresses for its balance and pure class. Sweet floral notes add lift on the finish. The Malbec is typically a blender for the Pahlmeyer wines, but in 2012 a small amount will be bottled on its own. What a gorgeous and promising wine this is. The fruit was sourced from the estate's Waters Vineyard on Atlas Peak.
