The 2013 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch (90% Zinfandel and 10% mixed blacks from a vineyard planted in the 1890s) offers beautiful brambleberry, mulberry and briary fruit notes, with a dense opaque color (one of the deepest-colored of all of these 2013s), and great fruit on the attack and mid-palate. It hits the palate with a cascade of blackberry fruit and earth. This big, thick, juicy Zinfandel (15.8% alcohol) should drink well for another 10-15 years.

The 2013 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch will appeal most to readers who like dense, rich, fruit-driven wines. Black cherries, menthol, game, plums, smoke, new leather and tobacco wrap around the palate in a round, voluptuous Zinfandel built on pure texture and volume. All the elements are in the right place.
