Tasting notes
Taking on a youthful red/ruby hue, the 2022 Zinfandel Montafi Ranch has an eclectic mix of Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Trousseau Noir, Syrah, and Petit Bouschet added to the blend. On the nose, it offers a lovely lift of eucalyptus, black cherries, Asian spices, and cedar. Medium-bodied and light on its feet, it’s very approachable on the palate now, with an easygoing nature, a silky feel, and a clean finish, but it still has longevity. Drink 2025-2035.

The 2022 Zinfandel Montafi Ranch emerges from vines planted in 1926. Brisk acids and beams of tannin give the Montafi a slightly closed, reticent quality vis-à-vis the other Russian River Zinfandels in the range. A few years in bottle should take care of that. Dark macerated cherry, spice, new leather, tobacco and incense emerge with some reluctance. Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Grand Noir, Peloursin and Syrah round out the field blend. Give this time, as the tannins are formidable today.
