A beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon from the great New York Mets Hall of Fame pitcher, Tom Seaver. He was smart to use Jim Barbour as a vineyard manager and Thomas Rivers Brown as winemaker. Coming from a parcel on Diamond Mountain, the wine is dense purple, shows beautiful crème de cassis fruit, blackberries, a touch of earth, full-bodied richness, beautiful and sweet integrated tannins, as well as oak. This is a beauty and comes in at about 14.5% natural alcohol. Kudos. Here's a celebrity wine that definitely matches the brilliance of the celebrity himself. Drink it over the next 20 years.

Tom Seaver's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon GTS is deep, dense and explosive in the glass. There is plenty of mountain character here. Iron, red stone fruits, smoke, savory herbs, tobacco, game and leather are pushed to the forefront. Today the 2013 is a bit rough around the edges, but it certainly is not lacking in personality. I imagine the 2013 will be even better in another few years, once the tannin soften a bit.
Waves of blue and purplish fruit, blood orange, violets and lavender hit the palate in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon GTS. With time, gamier, more savory sage and bacon fat notes make an appearance, adding considerable nuance and complexity. The 2013 is unusually open for a Diamond Mountain Cabernet, but it nevertheless offers terrific balance as well as potential. The 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud barrels add sweetness but are also very nicely integrated. There is a lot to look forward to in this full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignon from Tom Seaver.
