Tasting notes
My favorite of the trio, the 2016 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard has a perfumed, spice-filled character as well as awesome kirsch and blackberry fruits intermixed with lots of dried flowers, forest floor, and spice. It's full-bodied, concentrated, has thrilling complexity, fine tannins, and a great finish. This cuvée comes from a site on the Sonoma Coast, was completely destemmed, and spent 18 months in one-third new French oak. Readers looking for an up and coming superstar from Sonoma need to get on board.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle is another huge, potent wine in this range. I find the level of concentration and oak over the top. Perhaps more time in bottle will help, but today, the Silver Eagle feels heavy and monolithic.
From a vineyard owned and farmed by Ulises Valdez, the 2016 Pinot Noir Silver Eagle Vineyard has a pale to medium ruby color and nose of crunchy cranberry and red cherry, toasted coconut, dried leaves and dusty earth. Light to medium-bodied with a good core of earthy fruit, it has firm, grainy tannins and fresh acidity to lift the finish. 125 cases produced.
