The 2014 Proprietary Red Wine from Alpha Omega is billed as the “intellectual” release from the estate, and it lives up to the billing. However, it also offers plenty of hedonistic pleasure as well. Notes of crème de cassis, blackcurrants, graphite, and hints of white chocolate flow to a medium to full-bodied, incredibly elegant Napa Cabernet that has moderate acidity, sweet, silky tannins and a great finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 10-15 years (and it will keep longer if you’re so inclined). Along with consultant Michel Rolland, winemaker Jean Hoefliger has produced an incredible number of killer wines in 2014 and 2015. If you’re interested in learning about all the various sites throughout the Valley, this is a good place to start.

The 2014 AOX is another one of their proprietary reds. This wine seems huge, massive, and monolithic, showing a lot of new oak. Hard to effectively evaluate, this enormous wine seems to have everything in the right proportions, but potential buyers need to have some patience with this beast. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring and drink over the following 25-30 years.

The 2014 Proprietary Red Wine is another of the highlights in this range. One of the most immediate and intense wines among these 2014s, the Proprietary Red offers a rush of intense fruit to match its succulent personality. The Proprietary Red is not the most complex wine in this range, but among the most delicious, especially for near term drinking.
