Tasting notes
The 2022 Les Leçons des Maîtres is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon. It was barrel fermented and matured for eight months in used French oak. It bursts from the glass with gregarious scents of lychee, elderflower, tarragon and beeswax. The light-bodied palate offers generous layers of stone fruit and citrus. It’s enlivened by juicy acidity and has a long, gently textural finish. Treat it like a Bordeaux Blanc and allow it to gain savory complexity over the next 5+ years in the cellar. 180 cases produced.

The 2022 Les leçons des maîtres is a brilliantly aromatic blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon from Ritchie Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Notes of melon, grapefruit, golden mango and lychee lift from the glass, conveying tons of richness, but then BAM—a karate kick of razor-sharp acidity enters the chat. The 100% new oak is completely integrated and not even perceptible; blocked malolactic fermentation keeps things steely and driven. What a distinctive wine. The added texture from the Sémillon is a game-changer.
Made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, the 2022 Les Lecons Des Maitres pours a right straw/silver color and is zesty and focused in the glass, with a light lift of fresh white pepper, chives, white grapefruit, and just a hint of jalapeno that stays well in check. It’s medium-bodied and more linear on the palate, with bright acidity, good concentration, and a long, clean finish. From a very cold site and aged in 100% new oak, it’s going to drink well for several years to come. Drink 2024-2039.
