Made by Sam Kaplan (Arkenstone), Vida Valiente's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon features a nose redolent of black cherries, cassis, red cherries and dusty earth--there's an almost Rutherford-like scent—plus hints of menthol and cedar. It's full-bodied, plush and velvety in the mouth, rich, long and mocha tinged on the finish. Super stuff, from the first commercial crop following redevelopment of this parcel of Beckstoffer's To Kalon.

Coming from a newly planted parcel in the back of the property, the 2021 Vida Valiente Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 24 months in new barrels. Classic To Kalon red, blue, and black fruits as well as spring flowers, incense, and tobacco notes all emerge from this beauty, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a round, layered elegant profile, fine tannins, and outstanding length. It's not massive by To Kalon standards but has gorgeous balance and elegance.
