Tasting notes
Sourced from a dry-farmed vineyard, winemaker Ketan Mody describes the site as "fickle." To this taster, his 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Vare Vineyard is actually a bit more approachable than his Montecillo Vineyard offering, with a bit more roundness and softness to its tannins, while still retaining Cabernet's characteristic austerity and reserve. Blueberry and licorice notes emerge, along with a pleasant accent of crushed stone on the lengthy finish.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Vare is floral and pretty, with plenty of sweet red berry fruit. Tobacco, cedar, mint and cherry come together in this perfumed Cabernet. While the 2017 is attractive and nuanced, it is also a bit light in body in the early going.
