Tasting notes
The clear winner in the lineup is the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Patriarch (100% Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in plenty of new oak). This deep purple-hued beauty boasts stunning black and blue fruits interwoven with notions of cedar pencil, tobacco, vanilla, and graphite. Rich, full-bodied, and incredibly complete on the palate, it has ripe tannins, integrated acidity, and a big finish. It's a stunning wine in this more challenging vintage.

Rich Frank's flagship 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Patriarch is inky and unctuous on the palate, with tremendous concentration and pure power. Crème de cassis, menthol, licorice, pine, cloves and chocolate infuse the 2017 with notable richness. This is an especially flamboyant style, but it works well.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Patriarch gives up super-intense black currant, plum preserves, cedar and espresso on the nose with notions of aged meats, pencil lead and truffles. The palate is medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated with firm, grainy tannins and a lively line, finishing long and layered.
