Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2004
(includes 8% syrah; half aged in two-year-old puncheons and half in 30-hectoliter new French ovals) Ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of currant, cherry, licorice, dried flowers and nuts. Sweet and fat but sappy, with lovely ripe acids perking up the perfumed berry and floral flavors. Nicely juicy, aromatic wine, showing a lighter hand with the oak than recent vintages of this release. Finishes with building tannins and lovely length.
