The 2018 Chardonnay Little Hill comes from the oldest Chardonnay at Rochioli, planted in 1972. The nose opens with elegant aromas of pear blossoms, crushed stone, apricot and a nutty tone, and the medium-bodied palate has juicy lift and restrained fruits, finishing long.

Showing more precision, the 2018 Chardonnay Little Hill is a tiny production release (there are 149 cases) from a site in the Russian River Valley and spent 8 months in French oak. Beautiful white flowers, bright citrus, lemon curd, green almond, and a distinct salinity all emerge from the glass, and it builds nicely with air, showing medium-bodied richness, bright yet integrated acidity, and a great, mouthwatering finish. It's going to evolve for at least a decade. This is another stunning wine from Tom Rochioli that has plenty of California richness yet still comes across as a Grand Cru white Burgundy.
